David Aschenbrener
Bronze - Lost Wax Casting

"My sculptural inspiration comes from ice formations found in nature. I turn ice into metal. No one else does this. Each piece is one of a kind. Like snowflakes, no two are exactly the same.

I utilize the “lost wax” method of bronze-casting to accomplish this task. The end result is very organic, and the work “feels” as if it is growing out of nature as well."

- David Aschenbrener

Nancy Miller-Korth
Pottery

"I began making pots later in life. Serendipity describes how I came to be a potter. My first real exposure came when neighbors moved in next door some 20 years ago. He is a professional wood fire potter (Simon Levin) and she is a Presbyterian minister (Susan Phillips)…great people. I had never heard about wood firing and was intrigued with the process. I began to help with the firings. 15 years ago when I first retired, Simon invited me to work with him in his studio making pottery. I was hooked almost immediately by the whole creative process. I loved the feel of the clay and turning a wet, lump of clay into something for practical use.

Throwing the pot is just the beginning of the process.
I have come to love refining forms, decoration and firing. I carve depictions of things I see around me on the raw clay. Animals, flowers and insects stand out in humorous and joyful relief. Firing pots in a wood-fired kiln, though time consuming and labor intensive, results in a warm surface that invites use. The result of the fire and ash washing over the pots can be subtle or dramatic. Unloading the kiln is always something to look forward to."
